About the Event

The Centre of Excellence in Public Policy, Law and Governance at IIT Kharagpur hosted a comprehensive three-day lecture series featuring three interconnected themes exploring the relationship between innovation, regulation, and public policy in India.

"Black Box - Innovation & Public Policy in India" examined the often opaque process through which innovation policies are formulated and implemented in India, unpacking the decision-making mechanisms that drive technology and innovation governance.

"Theories of Regulation" provided a theoretical foundation for understanding different regulatory approaches, from command-and-control mechanisms to market-based instruments, and their applicability in the Indian context.

"Market Failures - Providing the Context of Policy" explored the economic rationale for government intervention through public policy, examining how market failures such as externalities, public goods, information asymmetry, and monopoly power create the need for policy responses.
