About the Program

IIT Kharagpur invites applications for its prestigious Master's in Public Policy, Law and Governance (MPPLG) program for the academic year 2026. This is a 2-year full-time postgraduate program offered by the Centre of Excellence in Public Policy, Law and Governance.

The curriculum blends theory and practice, encouraging critical engagement with real-world challenges through interdisciplinary approaches. It covers public institutions and governance systems, constitutional and administrative frameworks, policy formulation and implementation, and regulatory mechanisms.

The program is research intensive with a strong focus on skill orientation, preparing graduates for careers in government, policy think tanks, international organizations, corporate governance, and academia. The program includes core courses, electives, skill-building modules, experiential learning, and capstone projects.

Eligibility Criteria

General / OBC / EWS Categories

  • Bachelor's degree in Science / Engineering / Law / Medicine / Commerce / Arts (minimum four-year programme)
  • Minimum marks: 65% or CGPA 7.0 (or equivalent)
  • Age limit: 30 years as of January 1, 2025

SC / ST / PwD Categories

  • Bachelor's degree in Science / Engineering / Law / Medicine / Commerce / Arts (minimum four-year programme)
  • Minimum marks: 60% or CGPA 6.5
  • Age limit: 35 years as of January 1, 2025

Final-year students may apply (subject to eligibility verification at the time of admission). Work experience (up to 3 years) may extend age eligibility. Preference given to female candidates and those with work experience.

Application Process

  • Step 1 - Register: Register on the official portal with basic details
  • Step 2 - Generate OTP: Complete registration & generate OTP for verification
  • Step 3 - OTP Verification: Verify OTP sent to your mobile/email to activate account
  • Step 4 - Login & Fill Application: Fill application sections: Personal, Academic, Uploads, Payment, Status
  • Step 5 - Payment: Pay the application fee via online banking or credit card
  • Step 6 - Print Application: After successful payment and completion, use Print Application option for your records
